On December 13, 2023, Mercy Care for the Adirondacks hosted their Friendship Volunteers and Elder Friends for a Holiday Craft Event at Raquette River Brewing in Tupper Lake. Guests made holiday ornaments with direction generously provided by Friendship Volunteer Debbie McLean. Guests were able to make multiple ornaments under Debbie’s expert guidance while socializing and enjoying treats from Spruce and Hemlock in Tupper Lake.
The purpose of Mercy Care Creativity in Aging Events is to bring together Friendship Volunteers and their Elder Friends for social outings while expressing creativity together to help ease the isolation and loneliness people of all ages are experiencing, especially around the holiday season.
The impact of these events is best illustrated in a quote from a Mercy Care Elder Friend who said, “I love these events, they get me out of the house, talking to people and now I have made gifts for my neighbor.”
