In response to a request from our Volunteers and Care Receivers, Mercy Care held an in-service program on the topic of health insurance, and navigating the system.
The in-service program and luncheon on Health Insurance were held on May 10th, 2023, from 11 am – 1 pm at Mount Pisgah Lodge in Saranac Lake. Catering was provided by the Lakeview Deli. Sarah Weilacher, Coordinator of Services for the Aging, and Devon Caban, Case Manager from Franklin County Office for the Aging gave a comprehensive presentation on the services provided at the Office for the Aging with a focus on Health Insurance and the role of the (HICAP) counselors.
HICAP, or New York’s Health Insurance Information, Counseling & Assistance Program’s mission is to provide information, individual counseling, and assistance to people about MEDICARE as well as private health insurance coverage and other health insurance issues for seniors.
In Franklin County, the Office for the Aging takes the lead in coordinating and supporting HIICAP counselors. Sarah Weilacher is the Coordinator of the HICAP program
